The photo you see here, and the entity you see in the film is not it's true form.
The Entity takes on the form of it's victim before it kills them. In this case, it's victim was the intruder in the home.
Before the intruder broke into the house, the entity had already killed the intruder's intended victim. We do not know why he broke into the house, be he seemed to be angry.

We are yet to see what this monster is truly capable of.
Biology:
We know next to nothing about this creature. All we know is that it will transform into it's victim before killing them. It's unknown why it kills, or if it has any intentions or thought.
Powers and Abilities:
- Shapeshifting (only when going to kill)
- Invisible (until taken a physical form)
- Invulnerable (as far as we know)
